You wanna do what???
Let me just start by telling you that I love throwing things away like nobody's business.
No, you don't understand ... I. LOVE. IT.
It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
And although I come from a family of pack rats and collectors ... I cringe at the thought of collecting just about anything I can't wear.
So when I read about the "40 bags in 40 days challenge" on another blog (Clover Lane) ... my first thought was "SIGN ME UP!".
The idea is pretty simple ... purge your house of 40 bags of stuff in 40 days (during the 40 days before Easter, otherwise known as Lent).
I made my list of spaces to clean out ... closets, drawers, shelves, pantry, fridge, garage, car...
... if it's cluttered or can use some clearing-out, it's on my list.
(And I did count spaces like my closet, for example, for two bags ... come on, who are we kidding ... I can take way more than one bag outta there!) So it really wasn't as hard as you might think to come up with 40 spaces to clean, I promise!
So.....
anybody wanna join me!?!
It'll feel SOOOOO good when we're done!
Warm fuzzies for all! :)~
(*Note: when I mention "throwing things away", I don't necessarily literally mean throwing things away -- like in the garbage can. Most of what I take out of my house is given to Goodwill or other people who can use it!)

I don't think I could find enough stuff to fill 40 bags! I'm worse than you I think...throwing things away is my favorite thing ever. Now if only MICHAEL would let me throw away some of his stuff......:-)
ReplyDeleteWell, seeing as how you're currently living in a trailer, I guess I'll let you off the hook ... :)~ Emptying too much stuff from there might result in you losing some crucial necessities! :-)
ReplyDeleteGood point ;-) I just realized that picture of Wuce looks just like Scottie when he tries to open his eyes REALLY wide! HA!
ReplyDeleteYou're right! :)~
ReplyDeleteOMG, this idea is amazing. Although I have missed the 40 days before Easter I think I am going to make this my new project!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it, I love it! I am posing this idea to my partner tonight. I get such a thrill out of cleaning (no it is not sad) and am pumped to steal the idea from you!
ReplyDeleteI just saw the list on Pintrest. I think I'll try it! I've already cleaned out several of the places you listed in the last month (my husband was preparing for a deployment, so it was stress cleaning), but the cleaning continues! Thanks for the idea of one place per day!
ReplyDeletesaw this list on pinterest, too! Can't wait to get started!!!
ReplyDeleteI know this was earlier this year, but I just stumbled upon it (literally... StumbleUpon.com) and I want in NOW!
ReplyDeleteThis is just the kick in the butt I need to whip this place in shape!! I may, however, go for donating instead of tossing. I'd rather donate as much as I can to people who may be in need.
I'm in and you're about to mentioned on UnscriptedLife.com!
Beginning today, linking back to you on my blog! Thanks for this awesome challenge! {Thanks, Pinterest, for this!}
ReplyDeleteI just picked this up off Pinterest and I am going to do it. Unfortunately I am of the pack rat variety so this will be a bit harder for me. But totally worth it. :) Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am moving in the next couple months...so I am TOTALLY doing this!! Thanks so much for the good idea!

Great idea...sometimes you just need a push! We live in a tiny house with almost no room to store stuff! Thank you for the "push"!! But I couldn't get it done in 40 days...well doesn't matter, does it? Because the outcome is just amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to post on my blog. Unfortunately, it has been dormant for several months. BUT, I can't think of a better way to get right back in to the blogging! GREAT idea!
ReplyDeleteOops, forgot to mention...hope you don't mind that I copied and pasted from your blog. I will give you the credit, though! And, of course, use my own picture!
ReplyDeleteum, not to ask a silly question but what size bags? paper bag? garbage bag? plastic grocery bag?
ReplyDeleteI was hoping somebody asked this... I had the same ques! :)
DeleteI did this with a friend during Lent this year. While neither of us hit 40, the one who got rid of fewer bags had to buy the other one dinner.
ReplyDeleteWe still have more to purge and now we had another friend join us for the challenge. We started when the kids went back to school and are ending at Halloween.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Saw this on pinterest and have repined it. I think this a a wonderful idea - did my tea towel dish cloth drawer - which had become a junk drawer
ReplyDeleteWhat is this font you use on your blog? I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG there are other people just like me, how will my husband take that fact :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea. Just saw it on pinterest. I don't think I'll wait for lent to start this - and I may be able to come up with MORE than forty places! :-)
ReplyDeleteGREAT idea!!! I also saw this on Pinterest and I am starting January 1st -- I may need to revise a few spots ofcourse, but I love it!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I just saw this on pinterest as well, and I think it is just what I need to help clean out the clutter in my head as well as in my house. Going to set it up for a fresh start in January! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is TOTALLY my New Year's resolution! This week I am going to sit down and make my list and get to it. I love clearing out and getting rid of stuff too! It gives me such a refreshed feeling.
ReplyDeleteI found my way here through pinterest and I love love love this idea. I am a minister in tradition that does not usually put a lot of emphasis on Lent, so I am always looking for creative ways to encourage people to at least create new habits for themselves during this time. giving up our "stuff" is so so difficult for some people...me included!
ReplyDeleteI posted my committment to this on my facebook status and have been OVERWHELMED at the response. there are at least 10 of us doing it. families have decided to do it and do a bag per person per day - that amounts for some to close to 200 bags. we are exchanging ideas for where to take the items we clear out. thanks for the inspiration!
This is AWESOME! Even though I don't practice Lent, I absolutely adore the idea of purging the house of *stuff* ~ and I'm so glad I'm not the only one who loves to throw things away. My grandmother kept everything, every.single.thing and I strive to get rid of everything. This seems like a good spring cleaning challenge :) Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI am in, I've been on the Decluttered rampage again since the first of the year with 6 of 7 kids still at home, a 2 year old whirlwind grandson who visits, & hubby & I back in school less stuff means more time to do what we need to do.

ReplyDeleteOh I love this! & I am SO glad I'm not the only woman who LOVES to get rid of things! It's sickening how good it feels! If only I wasn't married to an "almost" pack rat!
ReplyDeleteI found you via plum berry pie & am your newest follower? Love your blog, very cute!

Making my list tonight! There are six of us and we moved from a large house to an old mill house built in 1922 (the old mill town homes are small). Much of our belongings are still in boxes down in the basement however; a plumbing issue at the begining of the year wreaked havoc. And now we have an issue of water seeping in through the basement walls because of a heavy snow storm followed by extremely high temps a week later.
ReplyDeleteI have already filled 3 bags for donating, and desire to beat the 40 bag mark however; I am running into a great deal of opposition from other family members. Will see what happens.
im gonna try this....how do you get your husband to do the same though? lol hes a pack rat and i grew up with a family of them...so i give away everything
ReplyDeleteI'm in!! I'm late, but I'm in! The funny thing is that I just realized how late!! HA! Only a yearish. :)I will turn this challenge into a 40 days 40 bags by summer break challenge!! I have to do this. I don't LOVE to throw things away but the clutter makes me ill. So Thanks for the challenge!! I'm going to blog about it in the next couple days.
ReplyDeleteI'll send some mentions your way of course!! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm in, making my list as I'm witing this comment. Also going to put everything into 2 piles (donate or sell). Missed the 40 days before easter but anytime to get rid of clutter is a good time!
ReplyDeletethere are lots of ideas for repurposing items on pinterest also
ReplyDeleteI have long since missed the 40 days before Easter, but as a horrible collector of stuff and clutter and being 5 months from having my first baby, its time to get rid of stuff! 40 bags in 40 days? I can do that! And, I'll still be mobile when I'm finished. This couldn't have come at a better time!
ReplyDeleteI'm in! Just found your blog from a friend and can't wait to try this! I'm just gonna use your list, and do what I can with it. If I don't have the same spaces, it might not be quite 40 bags. But maybe I can add some spaces to make up for it. ;) Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAre we talking one gallon bags. Grocery bags or. Lawn bags. ? I wanta do this but I think to make 40 bags. My bags will have to be on the small size
ReplyDeleteWe will be doing something like this at the start of the new year. More like a 30 days challenge of de clutter as well as deep cleaning, instead of just de clutter. The list you posted has been a big help in thinking what areas we should look at. Such as the car, since it is not in the house i forget but when i saw your list i was like of course! It is like an extension of the home so why not get it cleaned out.
ReplyDeleteI am so going to try this. I am a big pack rat, It's like I see something and think I have to have it. So Starting tonight I will make my list and start Throwing things out....Please wish me luck on this project and pray that I can do it... Thanks for the share!!!!

ReplyDeleteI have had this blog entry pinned for a very long time. I just decided this will be what I do for lent! I shared it with one of my women's groups on facebook and a bunch of ladies are on board! Way to go for inspiring so many people!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in a hoarder house. Now I don't keep anything, LOL! I refuse to save anything. I use recycle, and craigslist. My MOST favorite though is the VVA because they give you these big yellow garbage bags, you fill them, call them and just leave the stuff outside of your door and poof! It's gone! :D
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect. I was just telling my husband this morning that I need to figure out what to give up for lent. What better than my clutter?!
ReplyDeleteI'll be doing 40 bags in 40 days as well....less stuff means LESS CLEANING!
ReplyDeleteI have got to do this! Thanks for sharing.
