Here a blog, there a blog ...

Everywhere a blog, blog!

But for now, back to my story of the day ... (which isn't really a story).

As I mentioned last week, I have recently discovered that there are an insane number of bloggers out in the blogosphere.
There are the mom bloggers, the craft bloggers, the faith bloggers, the fashion bloggers, the teacher bloggers, and a whole buncha other kinds of bloggers I've yet to categorize.

(By the way, why do I feel like my blog is a kinda a mixture of all of those!?) Hmmmm....
I guess that's my problem to figure out.

Anyway.

All of those AWESOME blogs can kinda give a new blogger a complex - (a loser complex, that is:)~.
After all, what makes MY tiny little poor-excuse-for-a-"real"-blog special?
I got nothin' to give away, no sponsors, no guest posters, and not a whole lot of followers (YET).
But all of that really has nothing to do with why I blog ...

So, why do I blog ...?
I know there are a lot of people out there who question what the purpose of a blog is ... and who question how/when we bloggers (if I can call myself that!) have time to put so much effort into a blog when we have so many other important things we should be attending to (you know ...the kids, the husband, the housework, the cooking, the play dates ...).
There are also a lot of people out there who think blogging is a big waste of time and facebook post space. (Don't ask me why I continue "sharing" my posts on facebook when 3 of my 300 "friends" comment ... but that's a whole other issue.)

So now I'm gonna tell you exactly WHY I blog.
I'll start out with a few of the things I love about blogging (in no particular order):

I love that I can be 100% ME on my blog.  When I sit down to write a new post, I pretty much write the first thing that pops into my brain.  (So pardon the lack of editing from time-to-time!)

I love the creative outlet that a blog gives me ... having an opportunity to get things out of my brain - even if no one else wants to hear about them is awesome!!! (take that facebook haters!:)-

I love being able to document all of these special moments and memories for Lucy to read someday.

I love looking back over Lucy's pictures -- even if it breaks my heart to pieces watching her grow up so fast.

I love that this blog pushes me to be the creative person I know I can be - and enjoy being! (even though saying that out loud scares the heck outta me!)

I love the connections I am making -- and encouragement I am receiving - from fellow bloggers who I've never met, but feel like I have (like sweet Sara!).

I love realizing that I'm not alone in my craziness ... there are so many moms out there just like me!!!

And I LOVE that blogging forces me to look for the good in my life.  I find myself constantly thinking about the positives now -- which is kind of a strange and unexpected perk of this blog -- but awesome, nonetheless! :-)

Wow!  That's a lot of GREAT things to love about a blog!!!  So, even if only for ME -- I think this blog is so worth it!  And it IS special, regardless of whether or not anyone else wants to read it.

Until recently, there was a quote in my header that said:

"Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things."

And THAT is exactly what I'm doing here on this little blog o' mine.  Enjoying each of the little things in my life -- no matter how small and insignificant they may seem.  Because really, those little things all added up are what make me ME.

I keep thinking of the saying, "Life is better when it's shared."

Just think about that for a second.  How much better IS everything in your life when it's shared!? ... celebration is happier, sorrow is more bearable, challenges are put into perspective, decisions are wiser (and easier!).

So, don't hold back on your blog, no matter how small.

Share your journey!

And don't feel bad about it ...

  1. I'm with you on the "huge bloggers giving us nobody's a complex"! I don't even share my blog on FB, I don't think that those people really care about my Tutuorial :) lol. You hit the nail on the head with this post!

  2. LOL, I could have easily written this post! You definitely are not alone. I too wonder if anyone ever even reads one of my posts all the way through, hence why I keep mine short....but you have a great mind set and keep on blogging girl! I'll be right there along with you, and if nothing else, know that both of us are writing on our blogs because we like it!
Thanks for stopping by my blog too!

  3. I totally feel the same way! Like Christina above me, I too could've written this post. I have a small blog with not much going in except what I post about- family, crafts, my little guy, whatever I want- like you. I'm doing for me though! It's fun to get followers and such, but I'm not actively pursuing that. It comes when it comes.

Ps- Thanks for following me! I'm following you too :)

  4. I'm with you on this one! Maybe all us 'little blogs' should stick together and one day we'll be the big ones :)

Thanks for stopping by...following you back!

  5. Oh Bec, you are SO sweet!! I love that I met you on here...you are an inspiration! I have the same problem with facebookers...I haven't posted my blog there for awhile because no one really cares about it. Seems like people don't do more than one thing...either they're fb people or bloggers...haha I love all of the communication avenues but I am rare! Keep up the good work...I just LOVE this post!! We are all there right with you!

  6. Hahaha I think I might get one "like" when I
post my stuff of facebook. Ahhhh well, you're right! Life IS better when you share it! I LOVE your blog, even if you don't have giveaways and sponsers! I always find myself clicking on your posts and catching up. Your incredibly easy to like because you're very genuine and I can tell through your posts. P.S. Thanks for posting about the Ultimate Blog Party... I'm a'thinkin' I'm headin' that way!

  7. I love the community that I've found on blogs. And don't forget that those blogs that you see with "big" numbers...they weren't always like that!

  10. I totally agree! I'm happier with my life when I'm blogging and I think it's because of what you said, "Life is better when it's shared." Happy Monday! Maren (www.TrinketsOfThought.com)

  11. I think so many of us could have written this post. Why do we feel a need to explain ourselves first of all. Second of all, while we may never (or maybe we will) be "big bloggers" we will make a difference in someone's life. It may be that Aunt Suzy in California is better able to keep track of our children, or it may be that we encourage someone to try something they haven't yet. Whatever it is, you will influence someone.

I love what you said about being "you" on here. That's my favorite thing about blogging. And, I've discovered that when I meet people in real life that I've only previously known online, the relationship is immediately deeper and more real. It's awesome. Bloggy friends are the best, because they really know you.

  12. Bec! Thanks so much for stopping by from UBP. I, just like a lot of the other commenters, knows how you feel when it comes to where you fall in the blogging world. However, this is why I blog...

  14. Well put!! I love reading your blog! You are always true to yourself and you always speak your mind. You will be a BIG blogger one day, I can feel it already just reading your posts. Maybe that's how you will leave the world of teaching by teaching us all how to blog : )

  16. I popped over here from your last post that you linked. I started my blog because I wanted to write more. I have so much stuff swirling around in my head. There are things that I think I could make a post about but then I don't because I don't want people to think that I am literally crazy or a bad mom or this or that. Maybe I need to take the advice that I gave you and write what I want to write in MY blog no matter what others think. It's not like I have followers anyhow right haha. So maybe one of these days there will be a crazy post from me. Thank you for linking up to this.

  17. I also read this post from your link. I just started a blog this week...my sister-in-law blogs and encouraged me to do it. I'm not sure what it's going to be about and I have yet to put up my first post (I have to add a few pictures), but I am excited to have the opportunity to be creative. My blog will definitely not be professional and it is intimidating...so thank you for your encouragement!

  18. I found you through Silly Eagle Books. I love the pallet book shelves, but I loved reading more of your posts, too. I like your idea of sharing fun stuff, not just crafty stuff for Friday, so maybe I'll join your party soon! The beginning of March was when I started my blog, so I'm very new to it, and I love your thoughts in this entry! Great job!
