Mom Cave, Step 2: Finding some inspiration ...

I realize for most people, finding some inspiration would be Step 1 .... but I do things a little backwards sometimes.  It's just how I roll.
And I knew, regardless of anything else .... I wanted - I needed - a big work table, hence my decision to start with building the table.

So once that was done, I needed to figure out where else I was going with this Mom Cave o' mine!

First stop:  Pinterest.
I know I mentioned it yesterday, but it's worth mentioning again!  It is SUCH a great place to search for inspiration.  I have a pinboard called "Craft Space Inspiration" ... you can check it out here if you'd like!
I drooled looked over my pins there one more time, got some great ideas, then headed out shopping!

Second stop:  Ikea.

And let me just say ... Ikea scares me.  Quite a bit, actually.
I'd only been there one time prior to this ... and it made me want to run and hide.
But Mick went along with me for moral support -- and we figured, if nothing else - we'd have a yummy lunch at Red Robin, conveniently located next door.  (YUM!:)~

We had a successful trip!  We got lots of great stuff, we didn't get lost, and we had LOTS of laughs.
Here's Mick, smelling the boards - er, shelves - I bought.  They smelled SOOOOOO good!
And no, we're not weird.
Why do you ask ...?
I'm sure we looked perfectly normal, sniffing the boards for like 5 minutes straight!?

Here's my loot, piled on the kitchen counter when I got home ....

Fast-forward one week:

Third stop:  Pier 1.

I don't go there very often -- but when I do, I always seem to find good stuff, so I don't know why I don't go there more often...?
I walked in the door and immediately saw this beauty.
The Dana Parsons Dining Chair and Floral Slipcover, ($99.95 and $49.95)

I know I'm not creating a dining space here - and this is a dining chair - but it just SPOKE TO ME the second I walked in the door!
The color palate is PERFECT for the room - and the rest of my house, for that matter.  I love that it is classy and unique -- and it will add a fun pop of color and visual interest to my mom cave!  I think .... no, I KNOW I'm gonna love it!

I can't wait to show you the progress in the room ... but for now, here's a sneak peek of my table and the chair, getting acquainted .... :-)

Next step for the mom cave:  shelves and storage, curtains ..... and details, details, details!

  1. Ok, I KNOW we would get along now...I would SO go around sniffing boards too...but most of the time I am the only one doing stuff like that!! lol Bec, you are HILARIOUS!! What really cracks me up is the chair and the table "getting to know each other"!! SO much fun!! And I LOVE that chair!

  3. Yeah! A mom-cave... what a great idea! I LOVE the little galvanized flower buckets from IKEA. They're making me want to go back and shop there again I was just in there last week to get frames. I try to steer clear of the maze upstairs and go straight to the shopping area below... especially with a little one on tow. I could be there for HOURS!!! Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see how it turns out.

  4. I so wanted that chair, but the only one in my store was banged up. Glad you got one--I love it!

I'm curious - what kind of wood was it, that it smelt so good? Or was it just freshly cut smell? :)
