Mom Cave, Step 3: shelving and storage

My mom cave is coming along .... slowly but surely!
After completing the table (which I am LOVING and using ALL the time!) and finding some inspiration (the chair), I knew the next step was some shelving and storage for this room (which doesn't have a closet!).
This is what the wall looked like before.
It's pretty ..... um ..... bare.
Let's fix that!

Remember that trip to Ikea I talked about last time?
Well, I picked up all of my shelving components there.
1. EKBY TRYGGVE shelves, $7.00 each.
2. Primer
3. Paint (I used Rust-oleum's Moss Green Satin)
4. Lightly brush over the top with a dark chocolate paint to create a more rustic, worn look
(after you've blotted most of the paint off the brush)

5. Measure and mark walls, drill holes (thanks, husband!)
6. Screw EKBY HALL brackets ($4.00 each) into walls, put shelves on top!
7. Screw in hardware for storage buckets.
8. Hang rails ($7.99), FINTORP hooks ($2.99 for five), and FINTORP storage buckets ($2.99 each)!

Here's a close-up of the finished shelves ....
And here's the finished wall!
(well, minus all the cool details that are yet to come!)
And all for LESS than $100!
That's quite a bit of storage for a pretty reasonable price, I'd say! :-)
Even WITH the table, we are still at about $125 for the space so far!
Can't wait to show you more next week!  Hang in there with me! :-)

  1. Bec you (and your hubby) have been busy. Those are some nice shelves for a mom cave, mine are bare plywood! Looking for to Fun-day.

  2. Love the look of the shelves. I seriously want to do that with something we own in our house. I just love the way the paint looks with that vintage look. The little tin buckets are adorable too : )

  3. Loving the look! Can't wait to see more!

  4. You're making awesome progress! I like the unique!

  5. The shelves look great! I need a mom cave!

  6. Love the hanging buckets -- so handy! The paint treatment is so pretty too!

  7. Looks AWESOME!!! I'll have you come do my house when we get to that point, K? ;-) At the very least, I may copy all of your ideas...

  8. I LOVE the way you painted the shelves! And the buckets are absolutely ADORABLE!!! ;)

  9. Wonderful! I want a Mom Cave too!

  10. Ah! I'm loving this! My craft room/cave is getting ready to be turned back into a guest bedroom (that no one will ever use as we generally don't have that many guests at one time and we have two others....) so, thoughts on something like this on the wall in the guest bedroom???

  11. I'm definitely jonesing for an Ikea trip now. I hate that it's 3 hours away, but I think it just might be worth it. Love the buckets.

  12. Those buckets!!!!!! Love love love those buckets!!!!!!

  13. Love this idea!! I love the hanging buckets. I've been looking for ones like that! Thanks so much for posting this!

  14. I love the wall! I have been trying to come up with a shelving system and your idea is a great one! One question... where did you get the 3 basket stand that is on your work table? Thanks, Lisa

    1. Thanks, Lisa ...
I just Googled "3-tiered metal basket" - and found it in a few different places, then went with the cheapest option! (Which was still, unfortunately, not cheap.:)~

Thank you for your comments!
I love EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. :-)
