Some Things I've Learned About Being a Mom

One of the blogs I faithfully read, 320 Sycamore, has been featuring "Some things I have learned about being a mom..." posts from various women all week, and I decided to participate right here on my very own blog.
I'd love for you to join in in the comment section, too! :-)

Ten things I have learned (in the last 2 1/2 years) about being a mom ...
  1. I've learned that the way you planned to do things before you were a mom - and the way you actually do them after becoming one - are two very different things.
  2. I've learned not to judge anyone else's parenting choices ... because before you know it, you will find yourself DOING whatever it was that you were judging.
  3. I've learned never to push a child to become potty trained ... because you will wind up with a two-and-a-half-year-old toddler who is still not potty trained a year later.
  4. I've learned that the box the toy comes in is much more fun to play with than the actual toy.
  5. I've learned that time passes 63,000 times faster once you have a child.
  6. I've learned that if it's quiet ... there's probably trouble.
  7. I've learned that kisses fix just about everything.
  8. I've learned that my mom was a freakin'-awesome mom when I was growing up.  Wonder woman, to be exact.  She worked full-time, ran us around to dance lessons, piano lessons, riding lessons, sports practices (and a multitude of other things) ... and still had a homemade dinner on the table every night.  And there were never any laundry piles waiting around to be folded, either.  Seriously don't know how she did it.
  9. I've learned that God is even more awesome than I thought.
  10. I've learned that being a mom is the hardest, most important, most rewarding job there is... and one I wouldn't trade for the world.
I'm so blessed to be Lucy's mom! :-)

What about you?  What have you learned about being a mom?  Let's see how many comments we can get!

Happy Mother's Day to all of the awesome moms in my life (especially my own Superhero Mom) .... and to all of YOU amazing moms out there in blogland, too! :-)

  4. I have learned that even when they are 28 years old you are still their mom and you still worry and fret. Once your are a mom you are always a mom.

  6. All of those things are soooo true! Especially the one about "God being more awesome" than you thought. Seeing Cam everyday amazes me. To think we didn't even plan this and yet God still created this amazing little person through us. So awesome!! Just a few of the things I said I would do:

Always feed them all natural, organic foods
Always have them wearing their shoes before leaving the house
Never take them out with food on their shirt or pants
    Take bink away by 1
Stop the bottle at 1 (It was really 13 months)
    Never let my frustration show
And I could go on and on, but somehow he still manages to survive and love me none the less. Happy Mothers Day to all moms out there!

  8. I love this post - and, that little girl of yours is beautiful!!! Everything you said above is SO true - esp. about judging others once you have kids. I have totally become the "whatever works best for you" person these days and I really try to cherish every moment and memory. I cannot believe I could ever be so lucky to have been given one of life's greatest gifts!! Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day!

  9. I think the #1 thing I have learned being a mom is: All of my kids are different. What works for one, doesn't always work for the others.
(And everytime I turn my back someone is taking off their clothes!! What's up with that!?) Hope you had a wonderful mother's day!!
